FOREWORD

Etosoto is a new eco-tourism initiative that explores the active management of preserved natural spaces, bioclimatic and minimalist architecture, and new forms of travel. The project is built around a productive design aimed at promoting delicate architecture entirely made from local wood. Located on the Cabo Espichel headland and composed solely of stilt buildings, the project is closed to all types of vehicles and is dedicated to preserving and supporting the local flora. Guests will be encouraged to participate, and their commitment to sustainability will be rewarded.

THE PROJECT HAS BEEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION SINCE EARLY 2024, AND WILL OPEN ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLICIN EARLY 2026.

APPROACH

Etosoto is an eco-hotel project put together by a multidisciplinary team motivated by the desire to create a place that would increase our connection with nature, with a poetic and sober approach. It’s an exploratory approach, in line with contemporary social issues, on the problem of building and living in preserved natural places without harming, blending in and integrating, and taking an active part in supporting the ecosystem. This project proposes a gentle way, where man does not impose himself as a coloniser of nature, but where man becomes part of a stable and resilient food web.

PROTECTION

Active conservation of the flora is an important component of the project. A large part of the site has a remarkably rich vegetation, with a maquis made up of a combination of very specific plants and flowering plains. Conservation will be carried out with the participation of travellers, backed up by activities to raise awareness and learn about the local flora.

CONSTRUCTION SITE

The construction site is designed to minimize its impact on vegetation, with all buildings made of wood and built on stilts (zero cement). The construction methods employed ensure that there is no damage to the vegetation outside the designated areas for the wooden structures, which occupy a minimal footprint of only 0.004% of the total land area. All pathways utilize existing trails only.
